Beatrice Blue is a freelance visual development artist and Illustrator who loves to travel and explore. She has worked for Nickelodeon, Huion, DreamworksTV, Sauvage - Procreate-, 3D total, Lightbox Animation, Literatura SM, Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, Harper Collins, Lonely Planet and Quarto books among others...

During the course of this workshop, we will work on a full illustration, following a step by step process that works on either digital or traditional painting. We will focus on how to tell a visual story and the ways and techniques to approach that. We will explore and test textures and different media, and talk a lot about color.

DAY 1

  • How to get our ideas, and how to translate them into what we want

  • Workflow

  • The importance of sketching and making thumbnails

  • Shapes and silhouettes and how they can affect our narrative

  • Narrative and composition

  • Color and form

  • Storytelling

  • Characters: Interaction, personality, stance. The importance of color and form in a
    character

  • We´ll read 1 short story if there´s tim.

DAY 2

  • Choosing colors.

  • Exploring textures.

  • Testing different materials.

  • Lighting.

  • Portfolio Reviews

  • Post production and editing.

  • We´ll read 1 short story if there´s time.

Course language: English

Availability: 20 people

Required tools: notebook with graphic tablet, photoshop (or equivalent software). Pencil colors, markers (Copic, Promarkers or equivalent) or watercolors. Sketching material (sketch book, pencils, pens...)

OR An iPad pro running procreate or similar software, and the apple pencil.
