THE TEACHER

Jim Moore is a Designer and Illustrator with 15 years experience in the game and animation industry...
This course is focused on the creation of creatures using the latest industry techniques. Starting with basic principles of design and idea generation, students will learn to master a workflow which will help them to create creature concepts for games, animation, and film. The principles presented are universal, so the techniques shown will be applicable to all art styles from mobile games to photoreal effects work!
Special emphasis will be given to understanding the natural forces which have affected the appearance of life on earth, which we will then apply to new scenarios to create new designs. After establishing solid working principles, students will then learn about incorporating 3d programs into their workflow- a must in today's industry!
DAY 1

Finding Reference - learn the importance of exploring the forms of the world around us, and how to apply that to your concepts. A brief understanding of evolutionary concepts, natural ecosystems, and even geology will all help to give your designs a more convincing narrative

Genres- Fantasy, Horror, Sci-Fi, - each genre has its own rules- know when to follow them and when to break them!

DAY 3

Introducing 3d workflow: Which programs are right for your concept? When to go 3d and when to go 2d
-
Demo: working from a sketch and building up a 3d file
