Jim Moore is a Designer and Illustrator with 15 years experience in the game and animation industry...
Whether you are a concept artist for Games and Film, a character designer for Animation, or an illustrator for publishing, you need to present your ideas according to the standards of the industry.
This intensive 3 day workshop will focus on giving your work a professional level of finish by using the latest techniques and tools in Photoshop. Participants interested in everything from mobile games styles to photoreal film work will benefit from the techniques in this workshop.
PROGRAM
DAY 1: BASICS

Class Intro
-
Lecture/Demo: fundamentals of light and shadow and basic tools in photoshop

Exercise 1.1: using the fundamental principles of lighting, students will create a geometric shape which will be lit in a realistic style

Lecture/Demo: Basic color theory and customizing brushes in photoshop

Exercise 1.2: Using the principles of lighting and color discussed, students will create a simple prop in a semi realistic style
DAY 2: COLOR AND FORM

Lecture/Demo: Techniques for stylized rendering

Exercise 2.1: Using some of the techniques presented, create a character portrait

Lecture/Demo: Techniques for creating more realistic images by building on stylized techniques

Exercise: 2.2: using the techniques presented, students will create a more advanced prop in a realistic style
DAY 3: BRINGING IT ALL TOGETHER

Lecture/ Demo: Incorporating 3d into your workflow

Exercise 3 : Using all the information presented in the workshop, students will choose a subject and style, and work on the 3d renders presented for the students. This exercise will continue for the rest of the class, including a final critique
