A MONSTER

WITH BROM
APRIL 14 - 15, 2018

THE TEACHER

Concept artist, illustrator - Dreamworks, Paramount Pictures, Blizzard, ID, Wizards of the Coast, TSR, Darkhorse and DC Comics...

Over the past decades, Brom has lent his distinctive visions and artwork to all facets of the creative industries, from novels and games, to comics and film, including,
Dreamworks, Paramount Pictures,
Blizzard, ID, Wizards of the Coast, TSR, Darkhorse and DC Comics...

This intensive 2 day workshop will focus on finding your best worst nightmares and bringing them to life through the medium of your choice.

If you are looking for a highly structured program you have come to the wrong place, BUT, if you are looking to talk art while painting together for two intense days, then please join me.

PROGRAM

DAY 1

  •  Introductions, getting to know one another in the best way possible - I want to see your art!

  • Next we decide what everyone is most interested in and jump down that rabbit-hole face first.

  • From there we set up easels and laptops or any other device or medium you wish to paint with and start creating monsters together.

  • Demo 1 – Drawing and Drawing. We will discuss all the things that come up when starting an illustration such as composition, how and when to use reference, favorite snack foods and so on.

  • Powerpoint Presentation 1 – My Artistic Journey- or - How I Learned Everything the Hard Way. Essentially my struggles and failures trying to make a living at art.

  • Demo 2 – the Under-Painting. We discuss effective lighting, color, how to fake it, and other technical stuff that I will pretend to be an expert on.

  • Powerpoint 2 – my How To presentation, showing in-studio shots of my painting process accompanied by many ill-conceived theories on how to paint.

  • Demo 3 – squishing paint around and making abominations.

  • From there I'm going to wing it, but hopefully it will be all of us painting and talking art into the night.

DAY 2

  • Guest Artist! Laurie Lee Brom's presentation and Q&A, chronicling her artistic journey into the mysterious and challenging world of gallery art. More info on Laurie can be found here: www.laurieleebrom.com

  • Demo 4 – start another painting or trying to fix the one I screwed up the day before.

  • Balloon animals.

  • More of everything.

  • Portfolio review.

  • Singing off key.

  • Sleep.
